Richard Hondo Herring, 48, of Dale, beloved husband of Elizabeth McGill Herring, entered peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, April 12, 2005. He was born on Oct. 23, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Maurice Herring and Eva Jean Quillin Herring. He had resided in Dale, Texas. Richard served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He

was a self-employed carpenter for the last 20 years. His passion in life was digging arrowheads.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Elizabeth Herring; granddaughter Taylor Elizabeth Crowder; five step-daughters: Susan Kimball of Leesburg, Va., Brenda Lamb of San Diego, Calif., Lori Delgrosso of Waterford, Conn., Mary Vaughan of Lebanon, Conn. and Cindy Crowder of Dale; three sisters: Deborah Foster and husband David, nephew Michael, Matthew and niece Katie Foster of San Antonio, Texas; LaVon Parker and husband Donald, son, Robert and daughter Melody Parker of Seguin, Texas, and Tylene Aaron of Rockport; he also leaves a mother, Eva Jean Quillin of New Braunfels; a brother, Charles Herring and wife Carla, niece Megan and nephew Curtis Herring of Canyon Lake, Texas. In addition there are 13 step-grandchildren and two step-great grandsons.
The family would like to give special thanks to nurse, Kyla Touchstone and social worker, Robin Hiatt-Reed for their support and kindness during this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 1911 Corporate Dr., Suite 104, San Marcos, Texas 78666.
Visitation was held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at McCurdy Funeral Home, Lockhart. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2005 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel, 105 E. Pecan St., Lockhart, Rev. Steve Moors, officiating. Interment with full military honors followed at the Bunton Cemetery in Dale.
Proud to serve as pallbearers were: Ray Martinez, Darryl A. Ross, David Foster, Matt Foster, Michael Foster, Curtis Herring, Don Parker and Mark Delgrosso.
