Robert P. Garwood, 89, of Lockhart, Texas, born Dec. 20, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio, died on March 1, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughters, Patty Dullye and husband Larry, Kay Bradford and husband, Brad, Cyndi Mergele and husband, Tim, Sandra Saenz, and Marilyn Maida and husband, Mike; and sons, Darrell Hastings and wife, Cathy, James Hastings and Glenn Hastings

. He is also survived by his brother, Dewey M. Garwood, Jr., 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He graduated from the University of Cincinnati, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the 11th Armored Division during World War II under General George Patton. He relocated to San Antonio following the War where he worked for Strauss Frank and Company. He later joined Standard Industries where he retired as Vice President and General Manager. He became a gentleman rancher in Caldwell County and he eventually moved to Lockhart in 1988 where worked as Membership Director for the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce for seven years and served on the Caldwell County Historic Commission. He will be remembered for his jokes and his dedication to recycling.

Family planned to receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Visitation was scheduled from noon – 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Graveside Services were scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
