Ruby Voigt passed away on June 18, 2010, at the age of 98. She was born on Feb. 1, 1912 in rural Bastrop County to Ella Smith Haley and John Haley. The eldest of nine children, she was raised in the country in an area fondly known as “The Sandhills.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Voigt; her daughter, Mozelle Voigt Lehman; her grandsons

, Tory Lehman and Rod Lehman; her brothers, Clifton Haley, Woodrow Haley and G.W. Haley; her sisters, Ruth Uhlig, Evelyn Staton, Billie Hawkins and Olita Giles; her daughter-in-law, Darlene Voigt; and her son-in-law, Lee Lehman.

Ruby is survived by her sons, R. B. (Pete) Voigt, of San Antonio, and Jerry Voigt and his wife, Patty, of Dale; six grandsons: Rusty, Rex, Rorey, Ronnie, Roper and Quirt Voigt; and one granddaughter, Roxane Lehman Smith. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Crystal, Summer, Brianna, Foster, Michael, Kelly, Ashton, Rodney, Reagan, John Edward, Jaclyn and Rachel; three great-great-grandchildren: Nathan, Tya and Ashley; and one sister, Betty June Erlich.

Ruby was a nurse for 33 years at the Lockhart Hospital, a career that she was totally devoted to and extremely proud of. She also worked eight years as a private duty nurse, and six years at the Cartwheel Lodge and Golden Age Home in Lockhart.

A visitation was held on Monday, June 21, 2010, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Eeds Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the Eeds Funeral Home Chapel with Vance Rodgers officiating. Interment followed at Pettytown Cemetery in Bastrop County. Serving as active or honorary pallbearers were Ruby’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions in Ruby’s memory be made to the American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas, 75231.
