Mrs. Senorina Benavidez was born on Oct. 19, 1931, in Lockhart, Texas, to Maria and Gerardo Calderon. She married Jose Benavidez in 1943 and had two children, Martin Benavides and Jose Benavides, Jr.
Sen was a loving wife and mother and a most hospitable host to all her family and friends. She especially loved to dote on her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and

she generously gave her time to many church and community events.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Benavidez; son, Jose, Jr., who preceded her in death at the tender age of two years; sister, Braulia Castilleja; and parents Maria and Gerardo Calderon.
She is survived by her son, Martin Benavides, and wife, Patricia; granddaughters, Grace Roman and Suzanne Nash and husband, Reagan; great-grandchildren, George, III, and Andrew Roman and Isabela and Louisa Nash, all of Austin. She is also survived by two sisters, Julia Calderon, of Lockhart, and Francisca Alvarado, of Austin as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Friday, April 18, 2008 at 4 p.m., followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at DeLeon Funeral Home, 110 W. Cedar Street, Lockhart, Texas. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Lockhart. Interment followed at St. Mary”s Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were David Alvarado, Eusebio Alvarado, Herardo Alvarado, Pete Alvarado, Daniel Aranda and Vicente Moraida.
Honorary pallbearers were Fermin Islas and Pete Islas.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Austin, the staffs of the Golden Age Home in Lockhart and the Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital in Luling, and her beloved sister Julia Calderon. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Lockhart.
