The Ninth Annual Lockhart Roaring Lions Band Banquet took on a Las Vegas Casino Night theme at the Lockhart High School cafetorium on Saturday, May 17.
The Band Boosters went all out for the LHS band students, renting gaming equipment for their “Casino Night” and serving steak dinner at their banquet.
The tables wer

e decorated with lots of play money and toy coins. Big and small sets of dice and assorted decks of playing cards were scattered about on all the tables along with plenty of little clear plastic cups loaded with candy treats.
Dinner was served at 6:30 p.m. and the awards presentation began shortly after 7 p.m.
The students present thoroughly enjoyed the awards portion of the program. They cheered each other vigorously each time a name and award was mentioned.
Head Director of Bands Scott Taube and Assistant Band Directors Clay McNeil, Joseph McKelvey and Casey Thompson took turns handing out awards to their band students.
After all the awards were handed out, the new Band Leadership Team including drum majors was introduced. 2008-2009 BLT includes Taylor Brite, Cass Schnautz, Samuel Strum, Jackie White, Whit Shorn, Dante Branch, McKenzie Rolf, Kalyn Chamness and Kiki Daniels. 2008-2009 drum majors are Mark Gutierrez and Mark Tate.
The band students enjoyed their dinner, the awards presentation and entertained themselves throughout the night, playing various card games until 10:30 p.m.
Drawing prizes were handed out at the end of the evening as the casino gaming equipment was struck down. All students, parents and volunteers had great fun at the LHS bands’ Casino Night.
Special thanks go to outgoing Band Booster officers Patrick and Joan Waldron, who served as co-presidents during the 2007-2008 year and to Mary Eisenberg, who served as secretary.
Incoming 2008-2009 Band Booster officers include co-presidents Abel and Lisa Garza and secretary Josie Espinoza.
2007-2008 vice-president Elaine Michna and treasurer Dennis Placke will remain in their current positions in the 2008-2009 year.
See you next year.
