JV Lady Lions participate in Halletsville Tournament

The Junior Varsity Lady Lions traveled to Halletsville to participate in a Halletsville “Eight Team” Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 6. The Lady Lions finished in third place.
Lockhart opened the first round of competition against Ganado on Thursday.

Toiya Ghant led the Lady Lions throughout most

of the game, earning a team high score of 12 points.
Shelby Kennedy and Isis Johnson each made eight points.

The Lady Lions advanced to the winners’ bracket with a 33-25 victory over Granado and faced a strong Smithville squad on the same day.

The Lady Lions played well against Smithville, maintaining the lead throughout most of the first three quarters.

Smithville bounced back in the fourth by creating several turnovers off the press and coming within one point of a tie.
Smithville snatched the victory from the Lady Lions’ hands with 10 seconds remaining in the game. Smithville rebounded a missed free throw and banked in a shot for a 32-31 win.

Kennedy led Lady Lion scoring with 13 points in the game.

The Lady Lions returned to Halletsville on Saturday to play in a third place game against East Bernard.

Lockhart was sluggish throughout the game, but defeated East Bernard 33-27 for the third place title.

Cassie Schroeder led the Lady Lions with a team high of 12 points. Kennedy contributed nine points to the win.
Schroeder and Kennedy were both selected to the All Tournament team.

The Lady Lions traveled to Yoakum on Tuesday, Dec. 9 and will participate in the Seguin Tournament from Thursday, Dec. 11 to Saturday, Dec. 13. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
