Lady Lions
The McNeil Invitational, held in Round Rock, is arguably one of the largest in season Cross Country meets held in the state of Texas.
Late Saturday morning, Oct. 1, on a very warm and humid day, the Lady Lions squared off against the likes of the finest 4A teams in the state.
Prior to this meet the Lady Lions” team had taken first place at the Moulton Invitational and had competed very well at the Texas A & M Invitational in College Station almost a month ago.
The field was comprised of 159 runners and representatives from 27 teams. On Saturday the girls ran in packs of 3 to 5 runners and ran easy early. While the team moved up several spots throughout the race, they were unable to overcome a slow start and some minor injuries as the team placed 12th on Saturday.
Senior Tami Warner led the way for the fourth consecutive meet with a 25th place finish and a time of 12:54. Sophomore Livi Massey placed 37th with a time of 13:09, freshman Alyson Gonzales placed 41st with a time of 13:14, and sophomore Alyson Daily was 59th with a time of 13:40.
The fifth spot for the team was a battle between four runners, with Sophomore Naomi Oliva taking the spot in 83rd overall with a time of 14:03. Oliva was followed by Senior Courtney Lee (84th in 14:07), freshmen Jannah Platt (90th in 14:17), and Jessica Herrera (101st in 14:25).
