Lady Lion softball defeats Del Valle

The Lockhart Lady Lion softball team hosted Del Valle on Friday, April 7, sending the Lady Cardinals home with a 7-0 shutout defeat.
Leading the Lady Lions on defense was starting pitcher Megan Davilla. Del Valle completed only three hits and scored no runs against Davilla.
Lockhart earned their seven runs from nine hits.

e Marquina with a single and a triple, Janie Juarez with a double, Alyssa Gonzales with a homerun and a triple, Zaida Hager with a single, Davilla with a single, and Karoline Pfefferkorn with a single.
The Lady Lions next home game is against the Taylor Lady Ducks on Thursday, April 13, at 5 and 7 p.m. The Lady Lions will be celebrating Senior Night and Parent Night.

J.V. softball finds win against Del Valle
On Friday, April 7, the Lady Lions faced off with the Lady Cardinals from Del Valle. The Lady Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning, but the Lady Lions battled back to put a run on the board in the second with a double by Krista Law and an RBI single from Lori Lujan.
The Lady Lions had a few mental errors allowing the Lady Cardinals to score three more runs in the third.
After a pep talk from Coach Alisha Homann, the Lady Lions rallied back with a lead off single from Casi Diaz. Then Annette McElroy strokes the ball up the middle to score Diaz. Chelsey Martinez had an RBI single to make the score 5-3, in Del Valle”s favor. Amanda Oliva then ripped a double into left field to score Martinez. The Lady Lions were finding their groove. Another double by Law scores Oliva and the score is tied at five apiece. Lujan then takes a walk, while Law scores on a pass ball. Khristyn Parra rips the ball down first base to score Lujan.
Pitching for the Lions was April Ruiz, who served eight strikeouts on the mound. The Lions sent the Lady Cardinals home with a 7-5 defeat.
“The girls did a great job of finding their mental toughness,” Coach Homann said. “They focused and got the job done.”
On Tuesday, April 4, the Lady Lions junior varsity softball team traveled to Vista Ridge where they were defeated 5-0.
The Lady Lions were making contact with the ball, but it was right to the Vista Ridge defense. The only two hits of the night came from Amanda Oliva with a double and Alicia Mireles with a single. Pitching for the Lions was Ruiz who had six strikeouts.
