While many Lockhart sports fans remain focused on the Lions’ run for gridiron glory, another group of local athletes are taking steps to remind the community that behind every good man, stands an equally good woman – in this case, a Varsity Lady Lion

Volleyball squad that stands poised to make a mark on District 17-4A to rival their football counterparts.

In three games at the Lion’s Den on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Lady Lions defeated the Del Valle Lady Cardinals, securing a fourth-place ranking as teams gear up for the second round of district play.

Strong play from the net and from the line led to the decisive victory, with the Lady Lions leaving the Lady Cards behind 25-15, 25-7 and 25-14.

The Lady Lions started strong, serving to Del Valle and leading 4-0, before turning the ball over to the Lady Cardinals in the Game One. Del Valle fought back in the third game, jumping out to an early, four-point lead and maintaining the lead throughout much of the game. After trading the lead several times, the Lady Lions kicked their game into high gear and pulled ahead to secure the 25-14 victory.

Isis Johnson and Lauren Moore led the Lady Lions at the net, stacking up seven and six kills respectively. Jesi Greer provided 15 assists, backed up by Tori Hill, who had nine. Alexandria Carter logged two blocks on her stat sheet, while Isis Carter added 1.5.

On Oct. 2, the Lady Lions fell 13-25, 3-25, 12-25 to the Elgin Lady Wildcats, who at press time were undefeated in and the frontrunners in District 17-4A.
