Lehman Lobos defeat Lions 69-45

The Varsity Lions hosted the Lehman Lobos at the Lion’s Den and fell 69-45 on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The Lobos took control of the court from the beginning, scoring 22 points in the first quarter while allowing only nine from the Lions.

Dustin Watkins, Ricky Rodriguez, Mario Martinez and Xavier Moore scored in the first p

eriod.

Watkins scored a pair of two-pointers. Rodriguez and Martinez each made a two-point shot and Moore made a free throw.

The Lions outscored the Lobos by one point in the second quarter, scoring 14 points to Lehman’s 13, ending the first half of play at 35-23.

Watkins had his best-scoring period in the second, making four two-pointers for a total of eight points. Moore and Rodriguez each contributed a two-point shot while J.C. Winkler and Hector Rangel each sank a free throw.

The Lobos came back to the court with a vengeance after the halftime break. They scored 21 points and held the Lions to seven in the third, ending the period at 56-30.

Rodriguez made one out of four free throw attempts and made a two-pointer in the third. Watkins and Christian Estrada each added a two-pointer.

The fourth quarter was the best period for the Lions. They scored 15 points and held the Lobos to 13, ending the game at 69-45.

Most of the Lion scoring in the fourth came from Moore who scored three two-pointers and five free throws. Estrada and Watkins each made a two-point shot.

The Lions hosted the San Marcos Rattlers at the Lion’s Den on Tuesday, Feb. 3 and will travel to Del Valle to take on the Cardinals on Friday, Feb. 6. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
