The Lockhart Lion varsity soccer team traveled to Elgin on Thursday, March 24, to battle out the second place district tie with the Wildcats.
The game resulted in an overtime battle that sent Lockhart home with a 0-1 defeat.
Wildcat Travis McMillan made Elgin”s lone goal in overtime with an assist from Alfredo Soto.
“We knew this would be a tough, physical

contest going into
Elgin,” said head coach Robert Ardis. “Anytime we face Elgin it is almost sure to be more of a game of physical challenges as each team tries to assert itself. This was amplified as it was a playoff game.
“Unfortunately, we let this take us out of our game. We had been developing an effective possession style over the past half of the season, but that went out the window as we were never able to establish any rhythm.
“Players we depended on spent more time arguing with the officials than focusing on the task at hand. Still, we had many chances we did not convert, some just inches from scoring.
“We were in the game until the very end. I cannot fault these young men for their effort, which was top-notch, just some bad decisions in terms of our conduct. It is disappointing end to a great season; I think we all feel that this was a game we should have won,” Ardis said.
The Lions finished the season with an overall record of 17-8-1.
