The Lockhart Lions’ varsity baseball team met the Austin Crockett Cougars on the diamond with a homefield advantage on Thursday, March 2.
Lockhart sent Crockett home with a 2-0 shutout defeat.
“It was a great performance,” Coach Gifford Whitehead said.
The Lions’ strong defense held the Cougars scoreless for the six-inning game.
Defensively,

the Lions were led by senior pitcher Steve Gonzales.
Gonzales pitched a no-hitter game for the Lions and struck out 14 of Crockett’s batters.
Assisting Gonzales at the mound was catcher Dennis Ortiz.
Offensively, Lockhart scored two runs from four hits against the Crockett Cougars’ defense.
Gonzales knocked in Aaron Torres and Daniel Garza in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-out-double to secure the Lions their victory.
“That was all they (Lockhart) needed as Gonzales’ defense took care of the rest on the mound,” Coach Whitehead added.
The next inning was scoreless for the Cougars against the Lions’ tough defense.
The Lions next home game will be against the Vista Ridge Rangers on Tuesday, March 21.
