The Varsity Lions hosted the Giddings Buffaloes at Lion Stadium on Friday, Jan. 30 and defeated them 3-1 before the night was over.

“Lockhart was back in action last Friday night versus the Giddings Buffaloes,” Coach Joshua Johnson said. “The Lions came out firing, putting up two early first half goals, both coming off

corner kicks.”

While looking for their first district win, the Lions were determined to score first against the Buffaloes and they did. They kept the ball rolling long enough to distract the Buffaloes and then scored two goals before Giddings knew what hit them.

Giddings scored late in the match, bringing the score to 2-1, but were unable to carry any momentum back to the goal as the Lion defense stepped up their game.

Lockhart scored a third goal off a well-struck free kick from 25 yards away.

“The Lion defense has given up few scoring opportunities this season and looks to continue their success in coming weeks,” Johnson said. “Our defense is at the core of our success… as they go the team goes. They have allowed our offense to play loose and take chances up front.”

Captain Johnny Juarez, Captain Jacob Berry and Colton Vogel lead the Lions this season.

Mathew Carniero scored two goals against Giddings and Cristobal Ocampo scored one.

The Lions’ current overall record is 3-3-4. The district record is 1-1-0.
The Lions travel to Taylor on Tuesday, Feb. 3 and will host the Elgin Wildcats at the Lion Stadium on Friday, Feb. 6.

See you at the game.
