The Lockhart Boys Track and Field team won the 2012 Region 4 Regional Championship this past weekend in San Antonio, Texas.  The victory was truly one the greatest sporting accomplishments in the history of Lockhart High School.

Five members of the Lockhart track team qualified at the District Track and Field meet held two weeks ago in New Braunfels.

Senior Joseph Bell f

inished third place in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.86 seconds. Bell missed getting second place by only 7/100ths of a second. The top two finishers make it to the State Meet. Still, Bell scored six valuable points for the Lions and concluded a great Track and Field career at Lockhart High School.

Senior Jordan Huckaby won the discus throw by more than eight feet. Huckaby threw the discus 169 feet, 4 inches.

Huckaby also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 3 inches. He is the school record holder in both events and is the greatest thrower in the history of Lockhart High School.

Huckaby scored 16 points.

Senior Dettrick Reed won the triple jump on his last attempt with a tremendous jump of 45 feet, 2.75 inches. Reed is the second-best triple jumper in the history of Lockhart High School.

Reed scored 10 points for the Lions.

Senior Nate Moore won the mile run in a time of 4:18 seconds.  Moore went from fourth place to first place in the last 50 meters, winning the race by only one one-hundreth of a second.

His time was the third fastest in the history of the Regional meet.  Moore scored 10 points for the Lions.

Junior Robert Uhr won the 800-meter run in 1:54.

Uhr set a new Regional Record in the 800 with his outstanding performance.

Lockhart now owns the Regional records for the 800, 1,600, and 3,200-meter races.

Uhr scored 10 points for the Lions.

The Lions scored a total of 52 points, and won more events than any other High School.

This was the fifth Regional Championship in the history of Track and Field for Lockhart High School. Lockhart has now won 17 Regional Championships in the last 19 years in either Track or Cross Country.

Huckaby, Reed, Moore and Uhr will all compete for State Championships at the State Track and Field meet on Friday, May 11, 2012.
