Lockhart Lion Relays showcase local talent

The Lockhart Lion Relays started out having to deal with an intense early morning fog, which covered the entire Lion Stadium from one end of the field to the other. st of the meet on Saturday, March 1.
The Relay events began with an add/scratch meeting for all the coaches at 8 a.m., but the meet did not get going until after the Varsity Girls 3,200-meter relay was under way at 9 a.m. The Varsity Boys 3,200-meter relay began as soon as the girls were off the track.
The Junior Varsity Girls, Varsity Girls, Junior Varsity Boys and Varsity Boys took turns running the 3,200-meter run immediately following the Varsity Boys 3,200-meter relay.
Field events including shot put, discus, pole vault, high jump, long jump, and triple jump for boys and girls, varsity and junior varsity took place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Coaches, participating athletes, parents, friends and track and field sports fans all took a lunch break from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
The Distance Medley Relay resumed the meet at 1 p.m. with only Varsity boys and girls participating in the relay.
The rest of the races followed until the conclusion of the meet at around 8 p.m.
Lockhart Varsity Boys’ team finished fourth at the meet earning 10 points in field events and 82 points in track events for a total of 92 overall points. The Smithson Valley team finished first with a grand total of 154 points. Round Rock and Bowie tied for second with 94 points each.
Lockhart Varsity Girls also finished in fourth place earning 28 points in field events and 60 points in track for a total of 88 points. Clear Lake finished first with a total of 133.5 points. New Braunfels was second with 118 while Manor finished third with 101.
The Junior Varsity Lions finished fifth in the team results earning only 32 points with 6 field event points and 32 track points. Round Rock took first with 199 total points. Smithson Valley was second with 153, New Braunfels third with 58 and Bowie fourth with 41.
The Junior Varsity Lady Lions finished in 10th place in the team results with a total of 15 points, earning five in field events and ten in track. Clear Lake was the clear winner earning first place in team result with a grand total of 222. They earned 42 points in the field events and 180 in track.
Lockhart finished seventh overall in the field events and third in the track events.
Senior Rory Tunningley finished first in the Varsity Boy’s 3,200-meter run with a time of 9 minutes 25.69 seconds earning ten points for the team. Tunningley also finished first in the Varsity Boy’s Distance Medley Relay along with James Bonn, Xavier Thomas and Roy Garcia with a time of 10:45.19 for a total of 20 points for the team. He also took first place in the Varsity Boys’ 1,600-meter run with a time 4:33.55
Bonn won a first place in the Varsity Boys’ DMR, second place in the Varsity Boys’ 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:35.40, fourth in the Varsity Boy’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.50.
David Dinh finished second with Garcia, Thomas and Ryan Gonzales in the Varsity Boys’ 4 x 800 relay with a time of 8:29.18 and finished fifth behind Bonn in the Varsity Boys’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.75
Daetron Head finished third in the Varsity Boys’ 400-meter dash with a time of 52.19.
Stacey Bell finished fourth in both the shot put and the discus. Bell threw the shot put 43’5 1/2” and the discus 138’11.”
Xavier Moore finished fifth in the Boy’s Varsity 200-meter dash with a time of 22.75.
Lady Lion Gabby Galvan finished first in the Varsity Girl’s shot put and discus. Galvan earned 10 points for her team with a distance of 37’6 3/4” in the shot put event and another 10 points in the discus with a distance of 127’6.”
Cece Smith finished first in the Varsity Girl’s 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, and third in the 400-meter dash. Smith’s time in 100-meter dash was 12.00. In the 200-meter dash her time was 24.84 and in the 400-meter dash she clocked in a time of 1:01.88.
Desiree Roland placed first in the Varsity Girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91.
Aly Daily finished fourth in the Varsity Girls’ pole vault event clearing 10’6.”
Taylor Brite, Kelsey Daily, Desiree Roland and Jocelyn Coleman finished fourth in the Varsity Girls’ 4 x 100 relay with a time of 52.12.
Livi Massey, Alysia Perales, Jordan Platt and Aly Gonzales finished fourth in the Varsity Girls’ 4 x 800 with a time of 10:26.00.
Massey, K. Daily, Platt and Gonzales finished fourth in the DMR with a time of 13:55.00.
Junior Varsity Lion A.J. Maderal finished first in the Junior Varsity Boys’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.53, fourth in the JV Boys’ 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:09.97 and fourth in the JV Boys’ 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:01.56.
Marcos Gonzales finished third in the JV Boys’ 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:00.62.
Cameron Peters finished third in the JV Boys’ 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:55.21 and fifth in the JV Boys’ 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:02.59.
Brian Post finished sixth in the JV Boys’ discus event, throwing a distance of 105’1 1/2” and Kendall Till finished sixth in the JV Boys’ high jump with a height of 5’4.”
Junior Varsity Lady Lion Nicole Matteson finished second in the JV Girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 13.06 and sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 29’8.”
Kaela Amirkabirian finished fifth in the JV Girls’ discus event with a distance of 74’3.”
Rebecca Woody finished fifth in the JV Girls’ pole vault clearing 6’0.”
Alissa Casteel finished sixth in the JV Girls’ 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:21.15.
Shelby Ohlendorf finished sixth in the JV Girls’ 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:07.71
