Special Lions compete in Area Games

Special Olympics Area 13 Spring Games were held Saturday, April 29, at Round Rock High School. The Lockhart delegation sent 20 athletes to compete in the track and field events.
The Lockhart Special Lion athletes were among 32 area teams participating in a variety of events. In the track and field events, the Special Lions brought home seven gold medals, 13 silver meda

ls, and four bronze medals.

Results for the Elementary division:
Sarah Stark – silver medal in the softball throw and bronze medal in the 50-meter dash
Jamie Hennan – gold medal in the softball throw and silver medal in the 50-meter dash
David Marley – fourth place in the 50-meter dash

Results for the Junior High division:
Lauren Carreon – silver medal in the softball throw and fifth place in the 50-meter dash
Dela Hoke – fourth place in the softball throw and a silver medal in the 100 meter dash
Christian Osborne – gold medal in the running long jump and a silver medal in the 200-meter dash
Shawn Garcia – silver medal in the softball throw and a gold medal in the 100-meter dash
Casey Diaz – bronze medal in the softball throw and fourth place in the 50-meter dash
Devin Curlee-Stevenson – silver medal in the softball throw and fifth place in the 50-meter dash

Results for the High School division:
Uriel Benavides – fourth place in the softball throw and a silver medal in the 100-meter dash
Chad Gaddis – fourth place in the running long jump and a gold medal in the 400-meter race walk
Crystal Guerrero – silver medal in the softball throw and a gold medal in the 100-meter dash
Alicia Cruz – fourth place in the softball throw and silver medal in the 100-meter walk
Kristen Schmidt – silver medal in the softball throw and a silver medal in the 100-meter dash
Juan Tello – bronze medal in the running long jump and fourth place in the 200-meter dash
Patrick Harris – fourth place in the running long jump and fifth place in the 200-meter dash
Kathy Biggs – bronze medal in the softball throw and fifth place in the 100-meter dash
William Thomas – fifth place in the running long jump and seventh place in the 100-meter dash
Adam Gonzales – gold medal in the softball throw and a silver medal in the 100-meter dash
Josh Ruiz – gold medal in the 50-meter dash

The following coaches and chaperones that helped to make this day a success were Susan Schroeder, Amie Gonzales, LeAnn Albert, Toni Salazar, Yevett Manning, Kindois Barker, Troy Hart, Dag Dybdahl, Julie Green, Carla Spencer, and Sandie Lewis.
“A special thanks to the parents and families that attended to support their athlete and the entire team,” said Susan Schroeder.
The youth group and some members of the First United Methodist Church will host the Annual Hot Dog Supper honoring these athletes on May 21st from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the FUMC Family Life Center. Thanks to everyone who was involved this year to make the Special Olympics season a success for the Lockhart athletes.
