The Lockhart Boys Cross Country team traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend where they ran in the Chile Pepper Invitational held at the University of Arkansas.
Lockhart won the “Open division” title with a team score of just 43 points. Forty-four teams competed in the race that featured 581 competitors. The win marked the fourth consecutive meet Lockhart has won this fall, following wins at Hays, Weimar and Shiner over the past three weeks.
“The team is really starting to come on, they have increased the intensity and commitment at practices and the hard work is starting to show up in the meets,” said Head Coach Scott Hippensteel.
Lockhart senior Robert Uhr was the overall winner of the 5,000-meter (3.1 mile) race with a time of 16:08. The victory for Uhr was the sixth consecutive race he has won this season.
Last year Nate Moore won a total 10 races by the end of the 2011 season.
Uhr and Lockhart are scheduled to run in four more races this fall.
Senior Nic Avey finished second overall in 16:45, followed by Sergio Moreno (fourth place; 17:16), JD Amaya (11th place; 17:32), and Baris Field (17:59; 28th).
