Lockhart has a new Special Olympics team. They are the “Lockhart Bears”. Head of Delagation of TX Area 13, Elfida Tarin, from Maxwell TX, wanted her daughter Betzy to continue participating in Olympics events after graduating from special educationfrom San Marcos High School. Ms. Tarin started a “team” in August of 2004 with one member, her daughter. It was her desire to get

other persons with disabilities involved in extra curricular activities and conquer new challenges. She began talking to staff at Bluebonnet Trails MHMR and sent out letters to peers inviting them to join the team. She now has recruited fourteen team members from surrounding areas, three coaches, and several volunteers. Som athletes participate in track and field events and /or bowling.
