Detectives are seeking information that will help them locate and bring to justice suspects who might have been involved in a fight that left two men hospitalized and one fighting for his life.

According to Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Paul Cowan, deputies responded to a call in the par

king lot of Mike’s Bar in Maxwell on Sept. 19 at around 11 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, deputies were told by witnesses that a fight had broken out in the parking lot between two groups of men.

One man, 17, received a piercing stab wound to the heart and another stab wound to the left side of his intestines. Emergency room doctors said later that the quick actions of the deputies and Caldwell County EMS were instrumental in saving the man’s life. However at last report, his condition was still listed as critical.

A second victim was also transported to Brackenridge Hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen and a laceration to his right forearm. A third, who was not hospitalized, suffered severe lacerations to the face, allegedly caused by a belt buckle wrapped around an assailant’s hand.

Although detectives at the scene attempted to interview the two hospitalized victims, their high level of intoxication left officials unsuccessful in identifying the suspects, or relaying what had happened in the altercation, Cowan said.

The victims were reinterviewed days later, but could not offer any additional information about the disturbance.

Cowan said the incident is still under investigation, and asked for cooperation from the community. He asked that anyone with information about the altercation, including who was involved or how the incident started, contact the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at (512) 398-6777.
