Husband, father, businessman, sportsman, and Army officer, Thomas “Tommy” H. Pfeiffer, 83, passed away in his sleep at Seton-Hays Medical Center on Feb. 10, 2014.

Tommy was born in Lockhart on Jan. 17, 1931. He graduated from Lockhart High School and St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, earning a bachelors degree in business before joining the Army. Tommy served as an

Army officer in the active and reserve components for 29 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel.

After an initial two-year tour, part of which was served in Korea in 1954 and 1955, Tommy joined his father’s business, Pfeiffer Distributing Company, that he later owned for most of his working career; while serving alternately in the Army Reserve and National Guard. Tommy was an active, life-long member in veterans’ organizations, serving in leadership rolls in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign wars, where he served as Commander of VFW Post 8927 in Lockhart and as District commander.

His parents Henry and Anne Pfeiffer, his first wife, Rose Gallagan, and granddaughter, Amber Serrato, preceded Tommy in death. Tommy married Rose in 1953, and was father to and is survived by six children and six grandchildren.

His wife, Carol, and Carol’s four children, to whom he was like a father, and grandchildren also survive Tommy. Tommy and Carol McLeod were married in 1982 and resided in Lockhart during their 31 years of marriage. Carol, a loving wife and partner who shared many interests with Tommy such as hunting, bingo, and other VFW activities, was present at his bedside when Tommy passed away.

Family will receive friends honoring Tommy at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 from 5 – 7 p.m. A graveside ceremony with military honors will be conducted at Lockhart Cemetery at 10 a.m. Feb. 13, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Tommy to the Lockhart Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8927, PO Box 571 Lockhart, Texas 78644.
