Track teams run hard in Bastrop

The Lockhart Track and Field team did an outstanding job of representing Lockhart High School and the Lockhart community as they competed in and won the 2008 Bastrop Bear Relays last weekend.
The Lions competed well against 14 schools, including several in Class 5A.

rs were: Aly Daily, Gabby Galvan, Cece Smith, Alysia Peralez, Roy Garcia, James Bonn and Rory Tunningley.
For the Lady Lions, Daily struck gold in the varsity pole vault, clearing the bar and her competition at 10’6”. Varsity discus thrower Galvan placed first with 125’6” throw. Smith won gold in the varsity girls 100-meter with a time of 12.0. Peralez won the JV girls 1,600 in 6:01.
Varsity Lions Bonn and Tunningley earned gold medals for their performances in the 800- and 1,600-meters respectively. Bonn finished his race in 2:00.06, while Tunningley led the pack in 4:20. JV Lion Roy Garcia won the JV 3,200 in 10:52.
Silver medal winners included: Smith, Bonn, Teie Harris, Jamee Bennett, Becca Woody, Janah Platt, Nicole Matteson, Scotty Castanon, Landon Rivera and Alfredo Maderal.
Smith won two silver medals. She earned one with a time of 1:01.9 in the varsity girls’ 400, and the other with a 25.5 finish in the 200. Harris won her silver tossing the shot put 37’02” in the varsity girls shot put. Varsity Lady Lioin Bennett threw the discus 113’04” to earn her silver, while JV jumper Woody cleared 5’06” in the pole vault. Platt won silver with a time of 2:44 in the JV Girls 800. Matteson placed second in the JV 110-meter hurdles in 19.3.
For the Lions, Bonn finished second behind Tunningley with a time of 4:33 in the varsity 1600. Castanon earned second place in the varsity boys 3,200 with a time of 10:23. Rivera cleared 10’ in the JV boys pole vault, earning his silver while Maderal earned his with a time of 5:06 in the JV boys 1,600.
Third place winners were Galvan – third in the varsity shot put with a 36’9” throw; Matteson – JV girls triple jump at 29’3’; Maderal in the JV boys 800 in 2:12; and the team of Kendall Till, Kyle Medina, Randy Castillo and Kevin Silva in the 1,600-meter relay.
Other winners included Stacy Bell, Nick Villareal, Xavier Thomas, Edgar Silva, T.J. Terrazas, Livi Massey, Lauren Moore, Desiree Roland, Cameron Peters, Dylan Messerley, Kaitlyn Bell, Amber Robbins, Alissa Casteel, Karsyn Stark, Shelby Olendorf, Meredith Olivares, Rhonda Jennings, Demitrious Joseph, Daetron Head, Kelsey Daily and Cassie Arredondo.

The Lions and Lady Lions will host the annual Lockhart Lion Relays at Lion Stadium on Saturday, March 1.
