Troy Alonzo Enis, 86, of Lockhart, Texas died on Saturday, May 16, 2009, with his loving wife and family at his bedside. He was born on a Depression-Era “red dirt” farm in Baldwyn, Miss., on Aug. 28, 1922, to Lassie and William “Red” Enis.

A basketball scholarship got Troy out of the cotton and corn fields; he attended and played at Delta State University in

Mississippi. When World War II broke out, he joined the US Navy for “the duration plus six months.” He was discharged from the Navy at Little Campus at UT; it was there that he met Lucille Porter and they married on July 20, 1946 at the un-air-conditioned University Baptist Church.

After the War, Troy finished his degree at the University of Texas at Austin. He worked as the Assistant Dean of Men at Texas Tech University, and later owned his own insurance agency in Austin. He was a cattleman and an avid fisherman. Troy and Lucille were very active in Woodlawn Baptist Church in Austin, and more recently, the First Lockhart Baptist Church.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Porter Enis; and his three children: daughter, Laurie Lane Paxson, son, Troy Alonzo “Lonnie” Enis, Jr., and wife, Judy Bassett Enis, and daughter, Lana Enis and fiancé, Conrad Gatti. He is also survived by five grandsons: Jacob Enis and wife, Marysa Enis, Stanton Lawson and wife, Jennifer Lawson, Samuel Enis and wife, Lauren Sell Enis, Troy Lawson and fiancée, Katie Van Lunsen; and granddaughter, Alana Lawson. He had one great grandchild, Nathaniel Charles Enis.

A memorial service was held at Eden Home in New Braunfels, Texas, on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 10 a.m.
