Mark Gordon Withers passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at his home near Luling, Texas. Mark was born in Austin, Texas, on April 28, 1976 to Kathy and Gordon Withers of Luling, Texas. He married Brandi McFarlin of Tryon, Okla., on Aug. 11, 2007 and his daughter, Brenna Rose was born July 4, 2008.

Mark graduated from Luling High School in 1994 and earned a Bachelor of Scien

ce degree from Tarleton State in 1998. After graduating, he worked for Texas A&M in the office of the Texas State Chemist as a state feed and fertilizer inspector for 17 years.

Mark started helping his dad with the ranch about as soon as he started walking and longed for the day when he could run it with his dad “full-time.” He played football for the Luling Eagles and was an avid hunter. He loved the outdoors, especially his trips to South Texas with his father and his hunting buddies as well as the trip to Wyoming with his Uncle Clark for antelope and elk hunting.

When his daughter and nephews came along, they became the new focus of his life. He spent as much time as he could with them, teaching them about all the different aspects of living in the country. He loved his nephews and was proud to be called “Uncle Bubba.”

He is survived by his wife, Brandi Withers, of Luling; daughter, Brenna Rose Withers, of Luling; father, Gordon Withers, of Luling; mother, Kathy Withers, of Lockhart; maternal grandfather, C. E. Simon, Jr., of Lockhart; sister, Kari Withers, of Luling; nephews, Justin and Payton Fairchild, of Luling; aunt, Gail Allen, of Lockhart; uncle, Clark Withers and wife, Barbara of Mathis; and with numerous cousins and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clayton and Betty Withers, and his maternal grandmother, Francis Simon.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home. Funeral services were at the First Lockhart Baptist Church in Lockhart, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Gary Rodgers officiating. Internment followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park, Martindale.

Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Eastwood, Duke Fairchild, Justin Fairchild, Payton Fairchild, Travis Fairchild, Brandon Fehner, Curtis Hinton, and Todd Rougeou.
