Valla Marie Moore Pogue, 86, of Bellville, formerly of Lytton Springs, passed away Feb. 14, 2011, in Bellville General Hospital.

She was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Austin, Texas, to Oscar D. Moore and Lola Bula Wofford Moore. She married Murry M. Pogue on Oct. 23, 1942. They were married for 65 years and had three daughters.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husb

and, two brothers: Mack Moore and Oscar “Red” Moore, and three sisters: Devilla Moore, Alberta Roberts and Evelyn Riner.

She is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn Cernosek (John), of Hempstead, Geri Reat (Rick), of Lexington and Lorraine Benhamou (Mohamed), of Lytton Springs; six grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; three sisters: Oleta Burke, of Krebs, Okla., Faye Shepherd, of Elgin and Hazel Evans, of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie loved her family and was a homemaker. After Murry retired in 1982, they moved to Lytton Springs. Marie had always been a caregiver to the elderly. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing dominoes with family and friends, and she was a wonderful cook: especially her fried apple pies. She followed the Longhorns and was proud to wear burnt orange.

The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff of Colonial Bell Nursing Home, Bellville, for their care and assistance.

Marie’s family and friends gathered on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Pettytown Cemetery, near Red Rock, to bid her farewell. Rev. Geary McManus of Lexington officiated at the graveside services.

Arrangements were by Phillips and Lucky Funeral Homes of Rockdale.
