XC Lady Lions give strong performance at UTSA

Lockhart High School’s own fighting Lady Lions Cross Country team ran very competitively in their fourth meet of the season at the Brooks Military Base in San Antonio on Saturday under very hot and humid conditions.
In yet another strong team performance, the Lady Lions placed a solid fourth in the 4A classification race that featured over 200 runners and 30 teams fr

om many parts of Region 4-AAAA. Gregory Portland High School won the race with 56 points, with district 26-AAAA rival Steele High School just behind with a second place team total of 66 points. Third place went to Boerne High School with 91 points, and Lockhart was just behind Boerne with 116 points. Following the Lady Lions was Corpus Christi-Flour Bluff, Fredericksburg, Dripping Springs, Tivy and Hays to round out the top 10 teams.
Junior Alyson Gonzales led the charge this week as she regained the top spot for the girls with a solid fifth place finish in 13:09 over the two-mile course. Senior Livi Massey was the number two runner with a 20th place finish in 13:34. Junior Mary Woody was 26th and was followed by sophomore Jordyn Platt in 28th. Junior Jannah Platt was the number five runner and finished in 13:57 and 37th place. The top seven included senior Aly Daily in 74th and freshman Karsyn Stark in 97th.
The Junior Varsity girls’ team faced another huge field of 30 teams and placed second. The Lady Lions were led by sophomores Alex Maderal (8th place in 14:21) and Bianca Juarez (13th place in 14:43), freshman Alissa Casteel (18th in 14:56), sophomore Kelsey Daily (15:32) and Jade Ramirez (15:56). Also running for the JV squad was Elizabeth Browning (16:37), Tera Alford (18:50), Victoria Espinoza (19:04) and Rebecca Woody (19:48).
The Lady Lions have an open week and will compete at the McNeil Invitational in Round Rock on Oct. 6.
