Clarence Mitchell Newman, 90, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015. Clarence grew up in Wallace, Neb., raised by Jefferson and Lula Newman. On Aug. 24, 1947, he married the love of his life, Maxine Babcock. They shared 62 years together.

They raised three children in Highlands, Texas where they were longtime residents. Clarence was a veteran of the US Army and a graduate fro

m the University of Houston. He worked at the Hughes Tool Corporation for 33 years. After retirement he enjoyed traveling around the country with his wife in their RV, and spending time with family. They moved to Dale, Texas, in 1998.

Clarence was a true Renaissance man. In his life he taught ballroom dancing, played the piano beautifully, was an artist, played pen pal chess and was a pilot. Clarence was adopted at birth and a highlight of his life was meeting his biological sister, Lorna Tortorigi, and her family at the age of 90. They shared an instant sibling bond and it lifted his spirit to have her with him in his final days. Clarence lived a long and full life and was loved by all who knew him.

Clarence is survived by his sons, Jefferson Newman and Michael Newman; grandchildren: Tammy Dauzat (Ron Dauzat), Christina Marie Williams, Stefanie Garza (Daniel Garza), Timothy Williams (Christina Gail Williams), Kerry Klenzendorf (Brad Klenzendorf) and Thomas Newman; and great-grandchildren: Justin, Laura, Cameron, Emma, Jaxon, Avi, Simon and Abigail. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; daughter, Rheta Williams; and son-in-law, Daniel Williams.

The family received friends at 3 pm and service time at 3:20 on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 at McCurdy Funeral Home.
