Marcella (Marcie) Ezell died on Jan. 17, 2007 at Golden Age Home, Lockhart, Texas. Marcie was predeceased by her husband, Jim Ezell, and a daughter, Marilynn. She is survived by daughter Cindy Kern and her husband, Al, of West Chester, Pa. and daughter Mary Carroll, of Lockhart. Her grandchildren are Sharon Haggard of West Chester, Pa., Alexis and Steven Cline of San Marcos

, Texas, Erik and Rebecca Carroll of Jacksonville, Fla., and Andrew and Laura Carroll of San Marcos, Texas. She also enjoyed two great grandchildren, Aidan and Gracyn Cline.
Born and raised on a farm in western Iowa in 1920, Marcie went to Sioux City for nursing training in 1938. After graduating as a Registered Nurse, she worked briefly as a civilian nurse prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Marcie quickly joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and was sent first to Kansas and then Oklahoma. She met Mississippian Jim Ezell in the Army and they married in May, 1943.
After years of raising her family in Mississippi, Marcie returned to her first love, nursing. She was a nurse at the old Methodist Hospital in Hattiesburg until she went to work for Dr. William R. Raulston of Hattiesburg Clinic in 1963. She worked at the clinic until her retirement, continuing to do some part time work in outlying clinics for some years. Dr. Raulston and the physicians of the OBGYN department remained close to her heart until she became too ill to communicate with them.
Marcie moved to Lockhart ten years ago to be close to her family and was able to make many friends in that community while keeping in close contact with her friends in Hattiesburg. Marcie will be lovingly remembered for her boundless energy, warm smile, chocolate meringue pie, loyalty to and love for family, friends, and community.
She will be taken back to Hattiesburg for services and burial. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Activities Room at the Golden Age Home Assisted Living.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Scholarship Fund at Golden Age Home where the Marcie Ezell Nursing Scholarship has been established. Checks should be made to Golden Age Home, with Ezell Scholarship in the memo.
