Moses to lead the Lions as new head coach

The search for a head coach to lead the Lockhart Lions is over. True to their word, Interim Superintendent Susan Brooks and Interim Athletic Director Scott Hippensteel wasted no time in hiring the very best-qualified candidate with the best interest of the students in mind.

hey approved Troy Moses to be the Lions’ new head coach.
Moses was the offensive coordinator for the Lions last year. He had moved on to Nixon, where he was hired to be their football team’s head coach, but, as luck would have it, he is now back where he should be.
Moses was sitting at his desk Tuesday morning familiarizing himself with his new office. He was visibly excited, enthused and just plain happy to be there.
“I’m excited about the great opportunity the board has given me,” he said. “This is my first head coach job. I’m extremely excited. I think I’m going to bring a lot of enthusiasm to the program.”
If the coming football season is infused with as much energy and enthusiasm as was in that head coach office, there is no doubt the Lions have more than a great chance to make the playoffs. Moses went on to say that he felt really comfortable here and looked forward to a good season.
“I feel the kids are going to benefit from a familiar face,” Moses said. “The system is not going to change and we will continue with what they learned in the past two years. Coach Goad has laid the foundation and we will just continue to build on that.”
The great thing about Moses leading the Lions is that he knows exactly what the athletes respond to. Also, because he was part of the system that was set up two years ago by Coach Les Goad, all Moses has to do is keep that great momentum going and work really hard at continuing to build on and improve that system.
After talking a bit about what his expectations for the team were, Moses ended with what he felt was an important part of the whole high school football experience.
“One thing I saw last year that was great, was the community support for all sports and I look forward to seeing that continue,” he said.
There are no signs of the community support for football and other sports dwindling.
The best is yet to come for the Lions, and the district has already started building the football program. Another new hire as of late June is Bryan Robinson who is originally from Kerrville but has lived in Lockhart for the past 10 years.
Robinson will be working as the new offensive coordinator and the track coordinator. He worked in Dripping Springs last year and coached in San Marcos under Coach Bush from 2001 to 2005.
Robinson is obviously familiar with the community and the school’s football program.
“My first coaching job was here,” he said. “I worked under Coach Hurley back in 2001 and I’m excited to be back. I see real good things happening here and look forward to working with Coach Moses.”
Robinson was convincingly optimistic about his move to Lockhart.
“I’m excited about the upcoming classes of athletes,” he said. “I like what I see and I believe there is going to be a real opportunity for making the playoffs.”
Now, that is the kind of winning spirit we need here in Lion Country.
Congratulations to both Coach Moses and Coach Robinson on their new jobs. Lion fans are ready to back them up and look forward to a great season.
The football program will be hosting a Camp Champion summer camp the week of July 23-26. It is scheduled for Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. – noon at the LHS fields.
The coaching staff is looking for community and parent donations of meals to feed the athletes.
