Merejildo Zuniga
Merejildo Zuniga, 88, passed away peacefully at the Chisolm Living and Rehabilitation Center on Sept. 2, 2007.
Merejildo was born on April 6, 1919 to Marcelo and Maria Zuniga in Fentress, Texas. He was the fourth of eight children.
He married San Juana Hernandez on Sept. 19, 1942. Out of this union eight children were born. He was a ranch worker on the Nolte farm
all of his adult life. He retired to Chisolm Trail Nursing Center in 2005, where he enjoyed visiting with friends, playing dominoes, and dancing at their social events.
He was a good husband, wonderful father and a great grandfather.
Merejildo is survived by five daughters: Connie Martinez, Angie Castillo, Elena Casanova, Margaret Turnini and Mary Ygnacio; two sons: Merejildo Zuniga, Jr., and Johnny Zuniga; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters: Paula Llanos and Maria Virginia Rodriquez; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Merejildo was preceded in death by: his wife, San Juana Hernandez; his son, Gilbert Zuniga; his parents, Marcelo and Maria Zuniga; his brothers, Clemente Zuniga and Viviano Zuniga; and his sister, Francisca Rodriguez.
A visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 3 and Tuesday, Sept. 4 from 6 – 10 p.m., at the Eeds Funeral Home Chapel in Lockhart. A Rosary was held on Sept. 4, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Eeds Funeral Home Chapel.
The Mass of Celebration was held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale, Texas, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at 10 a.m., with Deacon Cruz officiating. Interment followed immediately at the San Pablo Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas.
Serving as the pallbearers were Manuel Casanova, Martin Ygnacio, Eric Zuniga, Natalio Castillo, Jr., Jason Turnini, Diego Ygnacio , Jr., and Jacob Zuniga. Serving as the honorary pallbearers were Mark Ygnacio, Charlie Casanova Jr., Johnny Casanova, Steve Zuniga, Mark Ramirez and Jesse Ramirez.
The Zuniga family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Laurence and the Chisolm Trail Living and Rehabilitation Nursing Center and Staff for the wonderful care they provided for their father and grandfather.
