Irene Vasquez Garcia
Irene Vasquez Garcia, of Lockhart, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2007, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 84 years.
Irene was born on Oct. 20, 1923 in Prairie Lea, Texas, to Jose and Paula Vasquez, whom have preceded her in Everlasting Life with Christ.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Ismael Garcia, Jr., and a brother, Bruno Vasquez.

Irene lived the majority of her life in Lockhart, working in a local business. Irene was known by many and loved her family and friends, being a devoted member of the Catholic Church, until her physical and medical issues restricted her from attending church, and other like functions.
Irene loved her cats, and had a passion for cooking Mexican food.
Irene is survived by her only son, Ismael Garcia, Sr. and Ester Ortiz. Irene had two surviving grandchildren, Grace Lisa Soliz and her husband, Oscar, and Stephen Villalobos Garcia and his better half, Linda, and their Paternal Mother Leonor Garcia. Irene had several great-grandchildren: Heather Nicole Garcia, Bradley Ray Garcia, Stephen Joshua Garcia, Keith Verdecanna and Joshua Verdecanna, and great-great-grandchildren: Isaac Edward Verdecanna, Cecilia Soliz, Ernesto Soliz and Gabriel Ortiz (Gordy) and she will be greatly missed by all.
Irene is also survived by her sister Cruz Mendez, and spouse Fernando, and their children, Fernando, Jr., Joe, Richard, Michael, James, and Betty Mendez, and their families, all of Lockhart.
The family would like to thank Rose Vasquez and Girling Home Health for their dedication to our family member, and her health.
Service was held for family on Tuesday night, Dec. 11, 2007, at 6 p.m., and viewing was on Wednesday night, Dec. 12, 2007, with Catholic service at 7 p.m. at Deleon”s Funeral Home. Interment was scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at San Juan Cemetery in Prairie Lea at 10 a.m., following Catholic service at St. Mary”s Church. The family planned to greet friends at a reception following the interment at St. Mary”s of the Visitation Catholic Church Parish Hall.
Proud to serve as pallbearers were Stephen Garcia, Keith Verdecanna, James Mendez, Richard Mendez, Jacob Mendez and Alex Mendez, representing three generations of the Garcia/Vasquez family. Honorary pallbearers were Isaac Verdecanna, Gabriel Ortiz, Oscar Soliz and Ernesto Soliz.
All funeral arrangements were made by Deleon Funeral Home.
