Betty Frances Milton Rickert was born Nov. 21, 1938. She was born and grew up in Harnett County, N.C., and is the oldest child of Roy and Alice Milton. Betty passed away on July 8, 2009 after a brief illness.

Betty was a graduate of Lillington High School. She attended East Carolina College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Her first job was teachi

ng high school English in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was a feature writer for the Newport News Daily Press for several years.

Betty was married to the late Robert T. “Rick” Rickert and for several years she was the marketing director and editor of the college newspaper and yearbook at Lyndon State College in Lyndonville,Vt.

Betty’s career spanned 40 years in advertising and marketing in Houston, Texas, and Jacksonville, Fla. In Houston she was an advertising executive for Foley’s Department Stores, then later joined the advertising firm of Oglivey and Mather. In Jacksonville she worked for Harte-Hankes and Equifax.

When she retired she moved to Kerrville, Texas, to be closer to her family. Betty has been a resident of Lockhart, Texas for the last eight years.

Betty was a lover of writing, words, books, cats and crossword puzzles. She possessed an earthy sense of humor with a low tolerance for pomposity, hypocrisy and faux religiosity. She was a beloved wife, sister and daughter.

She is survived by her mother, Alice G. Reid, of Austin; a brother, John T. Milton and sister-in-law, Mary Milton, of Trinity, Texas; sisters, RoseAleta Laurell, of Portland, Texas, and Norma Jean Massudi, of Lockhart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Friday, July 10, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Interment followed at Lockhart City Cemetery.
