July was a busy month for officers of the Lockhart Police Department.

In a series of arrests and warrant executions between July 15 and July 24, the department made four arrests for drug charges and seized a number of machines suspected to be used for gambling.

According to a report released on Monday by Capt. J

ohn Roescher, the first such bust came on July 15, when officers responding to a loud noise complaint on Neches Street detected an odor of marijuana and noted several individuals at the residence acting in what they called a “suspicious manner.”

After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the residence and found evidence of marijuana and cocaine. Three men, one an occupant of the residence, one from Maxwell and one from San Marcos, were arrested. The suspect from San Marcos had an active warrant from Hays County, while his two companions were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana, respectively.

On July 23, the Lockhart Police Department arrested a former Lockhart resident for Delivery of Marijuana after observing him delivering approximately 2.5 pounds of the drug during a “buy-bust” situation at the Lockhart Grocery.

The suspect was also wanted on outstanding warrants from Hays and Travis  Counties.

The next afternoon, after what Roescher called “a long-running investigation,” officers served a search warrant on a business on State Park Road. The business, he said, had been under investigation for illegal gambling.

Roescher said several “eight-liner”  machines, as well as other video machines suspected to be used for illegal gambling purposes were seized, along with an undisclosed amount of cash. Roescher did not indicate any arrests were made as a result of the warrant execution.
