Martha Saucillo
Martha Balderas Saucillo, 87, a longtime resident of Houston, passed away on Aug. 3, 2010.
Born March 13, 1923, to Gumesindo and Julia Balderas in Lockhart, Texas, she was a quietly elegant woman whose love and faith touched many people throughout her life.
As a young girl in Lockhart, she acquired her love of classical music from visiting church musicians. S
he graduated from high school in Lockhart, and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Business Administration.
Martha was very proud of her early career as a legal secretary for the prominent firm Baker Botts. She retired in the mid-60’s to become a full-time homemaker. Her life’s calling was to be a loving and dedicated caregiver for many relatives and friends. Throughout her adult life, she provided tireless, loving care for relatives and friends in need.
Martha was one of the earliest members of Westbury United Methodist Church, a congregation that she loved dearly. Her faith in God and love for her church were fundamental parts of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Saucillo; and her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Rudolph J. and Raymond Saucillo. She is also survived by her sisters: Minnie Cruz, Ninfa Perez, Alice Olvera, Mae Blaylock and Eva Lozano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A loving and caring wife and mother, she will always be loved and greatly missed.
The family received friends on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at the Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at Westbury United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, with Rev. Randy Zercher officiating, assisted by Daniel Garza. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were: Lawrence Harris, Coyia Richter, Dana Ellis, Daniel Garza, Paul Moreno and Daniel Rivas.
