Post-Register introduces ‘E-edition’

In the days of the offset press, readers were forced to wait for their news; most often, they did so patiently – even eagerly.

Time marches on, and technology sets the pace.

Recent years’ developments, along with massive advances in the Internet, computer and even mobile phone technology have taken the focus away from patien

ce, and placed it squarely on immediacy. The New Media Information Age has pressed on, and across the country, newspapers are climbing on board.

After several months of research and beta-testing, the Lockhart Post-Register is pleased to announce the official unveiling of an E-edition, which has been made available through the website at www.post-register.com.

Although the print edition of the Post-Register will continue to be available at newsstands and to our print-copy subscribers, the Post-Register E-edition offers one more way to get your hometown news – even if you happen to be away from home.

“Our staff knows that reading the Post-Register on or near the publication date creates the most value for the reader,” said Post-Register publisher Dana Garrett. “Now, with the E-edition, long wait times for the mail are a thing of the past.”

Specifically, Garrett said, the E-edition will be available online each press date, at the same time the print edition becomes available at newsstands. Traditionally, print-copy subscribers have had to wait until the following day for mailbox delivery of the Lockhart Post-Register.

In its initial phases, the E-edition of the Lockhart Post-Register – an exact replica of the weekly print-copy edition – is being offered free of charge to print-copy subscribers. It does not require downloads or special software, and can be viewed on nearly any web browser. To register for the E-edition, subscribers need only visit www.post-register.com, click on the “E-edition” tab at the upper left, and enter their email and subscription information.

“Our readers’ security is very important to us,” Garrett said. “When they register, they are asked for an email address, but that information will never be shared with or sold to any other organization.”

Indeed, first-time users interested in viewing the E-edition before deciding whether they want to subscribe to the service are invited to take advantage of the “preview” policy, which allows one-time access to the current week’s E-edition without registration.

Instead, readers need only enter an email address to gain access to their first E-edition.

In connection with unveiling of the e-Edition, the Lockhart Post-Register has enhanced the interactive hometown news experience with presences on Facebook and Twitter. Catch local news as soon as it breaks by following the Post-Register on Twitter (@LktPostRegister), or talk with others about what’s happening in local news by joining our Facebook profile.

Both social media connect Post-Register readers with the flagship online product, www.post-register.com, the portal of Lockhart and Caldwell County’s hottest local news, sports and events.

“For nearly 140 years, we’ve been charged with keeping Lockhart folks in the loop, of making sure they know what’s going on in their neighborhoods, schools and governments,” Garrett said. “Now, we’re pleased to help our readers get the fastest, most comprehensive local news even faster – even when they’re far from home.”
