Annie Asberry

Annie Doris Asberry was born in Lockhart, Texas, on Aug. 19, 1931, to James Arthur Teague and Lillie Rowland Teague. She attended school Carver Vocational School in Lockhart.

Annie married young to Claudie Asberry Senior. To this union three children were born. She professed her faith in Christ and joined St. Mark’s Methodist Church. Annie worked as a head cook for the

Eastside Early Head start Education Center for many years until she joined LISD. Annie retired and began to work fulltime as an usher at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and worked faithfully as an Usher until her health failed. Although her health began to fail she never stopped attending service at St. Marks or First Baptist. She took the homeless as she helped them to get on their feet.

Annie Doris Asberry is preceded in death by both her mother and father; brothers: Walter Lee, Milton, Willie James and Vernon Lee; sisters: Lillie and Rebecca; sons: Claudie Asberry Jr., John Henry Asberry and Milton Asberry; and grandchildren: Paula Moore and Claudie Asberry, III.

She leaves to cherish her memory longtime friend and confidant Bobby Ray Carter; her granddaughter, Nicolette Moore (Shekinah James); grandson, Broderick Moore; great-grandchildren; Ja’hirie Haywood, Marcus Haywood, Jr., Jensie Brown, Snobia Durant, Brenda Moore, Demetrie Moore, D’Anthony Moore, Paula Moore and Broderick Moore; great-great-grandson, Artcules Brown; niece, Rea Neil Henry; and very special friends, Willie B. Williams, Tilly Thompson, Janet Lynn, Minnie Mae, Dimple, and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Hooks Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas.
