Otho Kavanaugh “Buddy” DuBoise

Otho Kavanaugh “Buddy” DuBoise, III took up residence in his new heavenly home on Jan. 18, 2011.

Buddy was born to Dr. O.K. DuBoise and Mrs. Frances Smith DuBoise on March 11, 1943. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley Burditt DuBoise, on March 10, 1973. Buddy and Shirley were blessed with a son, a daughter, and nine grandchildren. They were also bl

essed with a daughter-in-law and son-in-law who have both been a constant source of love and support.

Buddy attended Lockhart High School, and Southwest Texas State Teachers” College. Throughout his life, he remained close to his many friends from high school and college.

Buddy was a member of First Lockhart Baptist Church and the Harvester Sunday School Class. He loved his church family, and enjoyed serving as a church greeter for as long as his health allowed. No matter how sick he was, he always smiled and told everyone that he was “doing great.”

Buddy loved hunting, fishing, playing 42, visiting with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a special affection for his friends from 42 Club, Game Night Club, the Class of 1961, and the Harvesters Sunday School Class.

Surviving Buddy are his wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, O.K. “Okie” and Tyree DuBoise; daughter and son-in-law, Hollie and Trey Louk; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Dee Powell; sister, Mari DuBois, sister-in-law, Barbara Reed; and cousin, Janet Scott. Also surviving are his grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored: Kelsey, Hailey, Kaitlyn, Kaylee, Lauryn, Kavan, Austin, Travis and Stefani.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Dr. O.K. DuBoise and Frances Smith DuBoise; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale and Louise Burditt; brother-in-law, Melvin Reed; and nephew, Kavan Powell.

Buddy had a heart filled with love, kindness, and compassion for others. Several years ago, Buddy and Shirley saw the following quotation, and decided that they wanted it in their obituaries someday.

“You are reading in the newspaper that I am dead. Do not believe a word of it, for I am more alive than ever before. I have been released from all pain and suffering. This body that I have no more use for will be put in the ground, but I can assure you that I am not there. I am singing and dancing with my Savior.”

Visitation was planned on Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Funeral service was scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Rodgers officiating, and burial following at Lockhart City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are: Gary Blome, Jimmie Scott, Jim Hamblin, Gordon Withers, Sandy Dozier and Benny Hilburn.

Bertram Warren Fish
Bertram Warren Fish, 86, of Lockhart, formerly of Galveston died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at his residence in Lockhart. Services were held on Jan. 5, 2011, in Galveston.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jeanette Fish; three sons: James Fish and wife, Therese, Wayne Fish, and David Fish and wife, Amy; one daughter, Kathy Ovalle; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to his hospice primary nurse Sandi Wells, as well as the entire staff of Vista Care Hospice of San Marcos. Also a special thank you to his devoted friends and neighbors, William and Margaret Groves.
