Lions win again
The Lockhart Lions made it two in a row Friday night with an 18-13 victory over Del Valle.
Neither team could get into the end zone during the first quarter as both defensive teams came to play.
Early in the third quarter, Lockhart got on the scoreboard first when Quarterback Jacob Alvarez hit his favorite target Alex Contreras with a 36-yard pass giving the Lion
s a 6-0 lead. The extra point try by Daniel Zapata was good giving Lockhart a 7-0 lead.
Del Valle wasted little time responding to the score by adding six points of their own on a 35-yard run by Tyson Sanders. The kick by Fernando Eugia failed, leaving the score at 7-6.
The Lions added another six points on a one-yard run. The kick by Zapata failed giving the Lions a 13-6 halftime lead.
Lockhart grabbed another two points after they tackled the Del Valle punter in the end zone after bad snap from center. The Lions finished the third quarter leading 15-6
Del Valle”s Jacobi Nevins pulled in a 35-yard pass from Quarterback Patrick Houston as the Cardinals tried to come back in the fourth quarter. The score left the score at 15-13 after the kick by Eugia.
The Lions ended the scoring with a 24-yard field goal by Zapata late in the quarter.
Each team had 10 first downs during the contest.
Lockhart had 134 passing yards as Alvarez went 7-10-0 on the night, while the Cardinals had 135 passing yards on 33 attempts.
Thomas Collins had 59 yards on the ground on 20 attempts. Hill had 35 yards on 14 tries. Overall the Lions had 107 rushing yards on 40 attempts.
Lockhart had three penalties for 20 yards during the game.
The victory puts the Lions at 3-6 for the season and 2-2 in district play.
The Lions have an open date Friday, but will play their final regular season game on Nov. 7 at Dripping Springs.
