Martin L. Forgey, Jr.
Martin L. “Mel” Forgey, Jr. was born on Feb. 22, 1927, in Lubbok, Texas, to Martin Luther and Cordelia (Smith) Forgey. He passed away in Luling, Texas, on Jan. 29, 2012.
Mel graduated from Ballinger High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin after World War II, when he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Prime. Stationed in the South Pacific,
he was a specialized sonar man and deep-sea diver on the minesweeping ship. He held the rank of Petty Officer Third Class.
He married Juanita Bryan on Feb. 17, 1951, in Ballinger, Texas. For 40 years, he was employed with Lone Star Gas Company.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sisters, Dorothy Toney and Cordie Toney.
He is survived by his children: Randal, Debra Chamberland, Steven and Michael; his son-in-law, Eddie Chamberland; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Alan Chamberland; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The plans to receive callers on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Lange Funeral Home in ballinger, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2012, a 2 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home, with burial following in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger.
