Glen Oliver Taylor
On Jan. 21, 2012, Bandera lost a family man, friend, co-worker and a lover of God. That evening, Glen Oliver Taylor was unexpectedly taken by his Lord and Savior to his eternal home in heaven.
Glen was born on Nov. 15, 1949, in Lockhart, to Glen William Taylor and Maurine Cole Alexander Taylor, the first of two sons. Most all of his life he lived in small country towns and i
n his heart he always remained a small town Texas boy.
He attended San Marcos State University then transferred to A&I University in Kingsville and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He served our armed services in the National Guard in Hondo and, for a short while, worked for the State Highway Department.
After his graduation he worked with Tobin Mapping Company then went to work for International Aerial Mapping Company of which he worked for 24 years. During that time he was living and working in San Antonio and there he met his future wife, Betty, and they married on May 23, 1981.
They were so blessed to adopt a daughter, Brittanie Anne Nicole, in 1985. Glen was a big participant in Brittanie’s life; he coached her in basketball and volleyball and taught her how to golf, a sport that was so much a part of his life. They built their home and moved to Bandera in September 1998. Shortly after moving to Bandera he began working at the Bandera County Appraisal District, where he worked until his death. He and Betty became members of Christ Chapel in November 2004, which became and remains an important place in their daily lives.
Glen was a very involved dad to Brittanie and grandpa to his only granddaughter, Samantha Grace Buckley who was born on Nov. 19, 2007. He loved being a grandpa as much as being a husband and father and he excelled in each of these phases of his life. He was versed at many things but his passions were his family, church and golfing. Those who knew him well have comfort in knowing that Glen played a great round of golf on the morning of the day he died.
He is survived by his loving wife, daughter and son-in-law, Brittanie and Zachary Buckley, granddaughter, his parents, his brother, Alton Ray “Bubba” Taylor, Bubba’s wife, Diana, their daughters, Stormy and Kelley, and many other family members, close friends and church family.
Many, many thanks to everyone involved in Glen’s life and to those who loved him and continue to love him. Thank you for the support and love that is being given to his wife, family and friends. Please know that he loved you all as well and that your loss is being felt by those closest to him. Thank you also to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera for making arrangements and for support and guidance in this special tribute for a very special man.
A memorial service and celebration of Glen’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Christ Chapel, 844 State Highway South, Bandera, Texas (off of Hwy. 173 heading toward Hondo) at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Christ Chapel Ministries or contributions to the Gideon Society Memorial Fund in the name of Glen Taylor, via Christ Chapel.
