A year has passed since a hit-and-run driver killed a bicyclist outside Lockhart, and the Texas Department of Public Safety recently issued a call for help from the public.

Sometime during the night of Sept. 5 of last year, 56-year-old Paul Pittman, of Lockhart, was riding a bicycle in the edge of the south

bound lane of FM 1322 when he was struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle. The driver, after hitting Pittman, drove off the edge of the pavement and performed a U-turn, leaving the scene.

Pittman was found dead on the side of the road at around 7 a.m. the next morning.

After a year, the investigation has gone cold, and authorities are still seeking a lead that might direct them to the driver responsible for Pittman’s death. DPS hopes that by re-interviewing witnesses, or by asking others who may know something about the incident to step forward, they may be able to bring the case to a close, offering at least some comfort and closure to Pittman’s family.

Anyone who might have information on the crash is urged to contact the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division in San Marcos at (512) 353-7000.
