Phillip East
Mr. Phillip East, 60, of Franklin, Ky., passed away Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2006, at his home.
Mr. East was born in Poteet, Texas, June 2, 1945 to Jasper and Ruth East. He was united in marriage to Joyce McCrain, of Austin, on Nov. 25, 1966.
He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Speech on Aug. 20, 1979, which complemented hi
s already firm grasp of the English language. This was demonstrated in his writings, which included over 600 songs and a novel, “The Circuit Writer Of Lytton Springs.”
He was employed by the Kentucky Rural Water Association as the Director of Education Service, where he helped create the Utility Management Institute. He was a member of the Portland Road Church Of Christ, Whitehouse, Tenn., and founding member of the Circuit Writer Church Of Christ.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Joyce; his daughter Kimberly Williams of Sparta, Tenn.; his two sons, Jonathan East of Los Angeles and Jeffrey East of Franklin, Ky.; five sisters, Margaret Robinson, of Bronte, Texas, Willie Turner, of Temple, Texas, Lois Wheless, of Greenwood, S.C., Maxine Kolb, of Uvalde, Texas and Patsy Forrest, of Stephenville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Albert “Son” East of Chilton, Texas.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006 at the Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home, Franklin, Ky., from 6 – 9 p.m. Services were held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following at the Stony Point Cemetery in Allen County. His son-in-law, Blake Williams officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Gary Larimore, Andy Lange, Tom Gordon, Dave Butt, Jerry Farmer and Clem Wethington.
