G. Stanley Smith

Funeral services for G. Stanley Smith, MD, 71, of Lake Charles were held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. William Douglas Smith and other family and friends will participate in the services.
Visitation was held at the Johnson Funeral Home from 5 – 8 p.m. on Monday, March 20 and from 3 – 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21

Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 23 at Lockhart City Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas.
Dr. Smith was born in Lockhart and received his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He attended medical school at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and for a time was a General Practice Physician in Elgin, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he began his career in pathology. Upon his discharge from the service he returned to Texas and was assistant Medical Examiner in the Tarrant County Medical Examiners Office.
In 1971 he came to Lake Charles, where he practiced at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital before joining The Pathology Lab. He worked at St. Patrick Hospital, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, and also traveled to Jennings American Legion Hospital and Beauregard Memorial Hospital.
He was director of the lab at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital for the past 12 years.
Dr. Smith was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, and the American College of Pathologists.
Dr. Smith attended the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the church choir. He loved animals and was active in adoption of animals, especially his beloved dogs. He was a lover of music and an accomplished pianist.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Garber Smith of Lake Charles; two daughters, Lindsay Smith of Lake Charles and Regan Shaw of Reading, England; his granddaughter, Sydney Smith of Lake Charles; brother Rev. William Douglas Smith of Leakey, Texas; and one sister, Donna Kay Mayes of Pleasant Hills, Calif.
He is also survived by his special longtime friends, Ida and Irving Anderson of Lake Charles.
