Charles Erwin Royal
C.E. was born April 30, 1907, in Lockhart, Texas, to Charles T. Royal and Vina Roberts Royal.
He married Alma Sparkman on April 22, 1939, in Austin.
C.E. served in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a charter member of the First Lockhart Baptist Church and was one of the oldest members, serving as Deacon for many years.
C.E. owned and
operated Royal Cleaners in Lockhart for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Lockhart City Council from 1966 to 1976, serving as Mayor Pro-Tem during that time. During his tenure, his proudest accomplishments were the completion of the Lockhart Hospital and the development of the City Park. He was also a member of Lockhart Lodge 690, Ben Hur Shriners and the Kiwanis Club since its initial organization in Lockhart. After serving on the City Council, he was Municipal Court Judge from 1977 to 1983.
His parents, his wife Alma, his brothers Ross Royal and Bruce Royal and his niece Mary Lynn Michalk preceded him in death.
C. E. is survived by his nephew, Ronnie Royal and wife Michel of Lockhart; his niece, Ruth Roecker of Lockhart; and his nephew, Robert Royal and wife Ann of Austin. Also surviving are nieces, Elizabeth Traister and husband Gary of Austin and Nancy Harris of Baton Rouge; sisters-in-law Kathleen Royal of Lockhart, Martha Royal of Rosebud and Lois Harris of Baton Rouge; brother-in-law Maurice Sparkman of Fentress and many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Rodgers and Rev. Mary Lowrance officiating.

Joey Rushaw
Joey Rushaw, 70, of Lockhart, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006. He was born on June 22, 1935, in Edna, Texas, to Julius Rushaw-Hester and Clemmie Irene McMahan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Clarence Hester and Lou Hester.
Joey is survived by one brother, Julius Hester of Gary, Texas, and by two sisters, Mary Simmons of Houston and Linnie Finniley of Blessing, Texas.
Graveside Funeral Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 06, 2006, in the Lockhart City Cemetery with Rev. George Goodman officiating.
