Betty Jean Bowers
Betty Jean Bowers left this life on Aug. 25, 2014, after an absolutely wonderful 83 years. She was born on Sept. 16, 1930.
“Morsey,” (her family – grandmother name) was a woman with an endless grace, kindness and love that she shared with all that she knew. We have all been blessed with her presence and spirit. Memories will bring smiles, stories and laughter.
Betty s
et a high bar for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to aspire.
Morsey, each one of us is eternally grateful for your unconditional love and gentle prodding; you have taught us well and are our family”s beacon. We will try to carry forward your positive light.
Morsey left behind children and spouses: Kay and Joe Sleeth, Pam and Larry Tokaz, Rex and Kathy Bowers; grandchildren: Megan and Chris Chrisman, Ashley and Eric Walker, Conor and Amber Tokaz, Molly Tokaz, Amanda and Tyler Rabun, Hunter Bowers and Trevor Bowers; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Logan, Kendall and Kate Walker, Harper Morsey Tokaz, born last week and Parker Laurence Chrisman being born this week!
This is only the immediate family, and there are so many other family members and friends that we would love to list – each of you held such a special place in Morsey”s heart. Thank you all.
We were not ready to see you go, and guess we never would want to say goodbye to you. May your next journey be filled with the light and love.
So many things to say about you, so many lives you touched, but it is your unconditional love for each person you interacted with that sets you apart. What a gift to have had you as a mom, grandmother and friend.
May God hold you in the Palm of His Hand as y”all walk toward Eternity.
In lieu of flowers, Betty would prefer you donate to your favorite charity. One of her most meaningful places would be to the Youth Ministries Martindale Methodist Church (she did love you young people so very much).
Viewing and family visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, from 5 – 7 p.m., at McCurdy Funeral Home on 105 E. Pecan St. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 313 W. San Antonio St., Lockhart, on Monday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m., with grave services following.
The Family invites everyone to join them at lunch following grave site services at Northside Grocery Hall, 201 N. Main St. for stories, food and drink as we join in celebrating Betty.
Betty is with all God’s angels. We will miss you dearly. My world is a better place because you were a part of it. God Bless.
To Kay, Pam and Rex….I am so sorry for your loss…I know that this is a very sad time in your lives but you have such great memories that will last forever…Your Mother was the kindest, most caring person I had the pleasure to know….She was so kind to me when my own Mother passed away….I know you will miss her deeply but she has joined the love of her life and all those who went before her….One day you will meet again and both Betty and Bruce will be waiting for each of you with open arms…God has another Angel in Heaven….Thank you for sharing your Mother with all of your friends~
Kay, Rex and Pam, Tammy and I want you to know how much your mother meant to both of us. She was a dear friend and helped us immensely when we were new to the Lockhart community 14 years ago. Our thoughts are with all of you from the hills of Tennessee….
Betty was a delight and we will miss her dearly. She always had a sparkle in her eyes and knew the history of Lockhart better than anyone. We got a giggle from her Thank you notes that were from Betty and Brucie. May God bless the entire family.
What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady!! Betty was kindness personified. Her sweet smile and kind words were so “healing” during the illnesses and deaths of both of my parents. What a special legacy!
Prayers for peace and comfort during this time! Heaven is definitely a little sweeter and more real!
Blessings, Linda
Betty will always have a warm place in my heart, a very special person to both of us. I know her family will miss her. Blessings to you all.
Kay, Pam and Rex, we are so sorry for your loss. Betty was one of the most plesant and outgoing people you could ever meet. I have fond memories of her all over town with her wonderful personality talking to and helping out fellow lockhart residents. She will be dearly missed. May God be with her.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting your mom after I married Bruce Schmidt. She was a dear friend to all of us and stayed in touch with me and Bruce’s mom, Ms. Bea, after Bruce passed and until Ms. Bea’s passing several years ago. I continued to stay in touch with her periodically and had the wonderful pleasure of visiting her just about a month ago when I was in Lockhart for a family funeral. I thought your mom was a truly wonderful and beautiful lady and am so glad that I got the opportunity to know her and to see her recently. We had a wonderful visit and I am so thankful that I got to see her again. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
Kay, Pam and Rex. I loved your Mom. I know you are very sad, but keep in mind how many people she touched and made happy. Your family is in my prayers.
Dear Rex and Cathy, Pam and Kay and Family:
We both want you all to know that your Mom was like My Mom (Darlene)
she was like a mother to me and Diane, we could go over and talk to her
and she understood. She will be so very very much missed.
I know she is with my mom(Darlene) and they are getting caught on old
times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your families.
Love,
Keith and Diane

Betty was a delight to be around. The room lit up when she walked in. We loved her sweet notes from Betty and Brucie. We will all miss her. God bless your wonderful family.
To Kay, Pam and Rex. I was blessed to share in the life of Muzzie and because of her I got to know your mom. She lit up a room and never failed to tell me how much Muzzie loved me. She seemed to never run out of energy and was a true friend to my mom after my dad’s death. Please know that I will miss her and cherish all the times I encountered her sweet smile ad encouraging words. Peace to an angel now sitting so pretty on high.
Kay, Pam, and Rex: Heaven received a special Angel. When we lived in Lockhart your mother would go on her daily walk around the neighborhood and stop to check in on us. She was always so friendly, always so happy, and always had a sweet smile. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayer are with all of you.
Rex and family:
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. I know she will be missed by many. Personally I remember her from the Campbell Street crew. All of us kids playing and hanging out in the street. I know I speak for everyone in our LHS Class of 75 – My God be with you, surround you with peace and comfort during the difficult days ahead.

Rex…My condolences for the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful lady, who I remember welcoming us into her home and always supporting us in school and sports activities. She will definitely be missed by all of us.
Betty, you, and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.
May God bless you all.

Sad to lose such a lady from the ranks of the Irving Club. She was a bright, spunky light in Lockhart.
