Albert “Veto” Mendez Jr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Albert “Veto” Mendez Jr., who left us on October 7, 2024. Born on September 10, 1975, in Lockhart, Texas, Albert was a cherished son, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Albert is lovingly remembered by his father, Albert Mendez Sr., and mother, Irma De La Rosa, both of Lockhart, TX; his stepfather, Jose Luis Zapata of Austin, TX; his devoted wife, Rachel Herrera of Manor, TX; his daughters, Marissa Marie Gomez (Christopher Gomez) of Manor, TX, and Alyssa Marie Irwin (Dakota Irwin) of Lockhart, TX; his son, Albert Mendez III (Jaide Mendez) of Kyle, TX; and his beloved grandchildren, Nova Rose Gomez, Xoe Marie Mendez, and Mason Drew Mendez. He also leaves behind his sister, Crystal Ortiz of Austin, TX; his brother, David Ancira of Austin, TX; and his stepbrother, Jack Davis (Connie) of Leander, TX, along with many nieces and nephews.

Albert worked as an electrician, but his true joy came from spending time with family and friends. His talent for drawing and his infectious sense of humor made him the life of every gathering. He had a remarkable gift for making people laugh and bringing warmth to those around him.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at De Leon Funeral Home, 110 E. Cedar St., Lockhart, TX 78644, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will follow on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at De Leon Funeral Home, with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1104 N. Commerce St., Lockhart, TX 78644.

Following the funeral, we invite family and friends to join us at the Lockhart Lions Club, 220 Bufkin Ln., Lockhart, TX 78644, for a gathering to celebrate Albert’s life, share memories, and enjoy food and refreshments.
