Bonifacio Perez Recio, Jr.
Born Feb. 13, 1925, in Buda, Texas, Bonifacio Perez Recio, also known as B.P. or “El Nino” – a Lockhart golf legend – passed away June 2, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Recio; his father, Bonifacio Recio, Sr.; his mother, Catalina Perez; and Rogelio and Rolando Recio.
B.P., an avid golfer who taught several of his children and grandchildren to
play golf, was a charter member of the Pan American Golf Association and the co-founder of the Lockhart PAGA chapter in 1954. He won dozens of local and areawide golf tournaments, even playing in the same tournament that Lee Trevino played in the year Trevino became a pro golfer.
B.P. was recognized in December 1994 with a plaque from PAGA National President David Longoria.
Believed to be the first Hispanic car salesman in Lockhart, B.P. was employed by the Lockhart Ford Motor Co. from 1950 to 1960. Prior to that he worked as a welder in Houston, Texas. From 1960 to 1962, B.P. worked at the Lockhart State Park, and from 1962 to his retirement in 1992, he was employed by J.C. Evans Construction Co. in Austin.
Although B.P. lost his vision in one eye as a child, he did not let that hold him back from being a great golfer or hard worker. His disability – and his first-grade education – didn’t prevent him from having a good time or from providing for his family.
B.P. loved to make everyone laugh. His ability to clown around and tell a good joke will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews – all of whom were his favorites.
He leaves behind: son, Tommy Recio; daughter, Becky Lockhart and her husband, Sam; daughter, Janie Wright and her husband, Michael; son, Louis Salazar and his wife, Lynn; son, Eugene Salazar; daughter, Audelia Salazar; son, Ralph Salazar and his wife, Gloria; daughter, Connie Amaya and her husband, Louis; and son, Ernest Salazar.
Family planned to receive friends at McCurdy Funeral Home, from 5 – 9 p.m., with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Mass of a Christian Burial was planned at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Church in Lockhart, with Father Howard Goertz, Celebrant, and interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
For those who will wish to make a charitable donation in Mr. Recio”s honor, a scholarship fund is being planned through the Lockhart chapter of the Pan American Golf Association.

Salmos 37:29
