Breakfast and airplanes at Lockhart Municipal Airport

The Lockhart Flying Club began hosting its monthly fly-in breakfast in February 2022 as a way to bring pilots and the local community together at Lockhart Municipal Airport. What started as a small gathering for visiting pilots has grown into a regular event that many local families and aviation enthusiasts now look forward to each month.
The breakfast is held on the second Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the airport.
On a typical month, about 50 to 75 people attend, along with pilots flying in from airports across Central Texas. Some visitors arrive by airplane, while many others are local residents who drive out to enjoy breakfast and watch the airplanes arrive and depart.
The event is organized entirely by Lockhart Flying Club volunteers, and the food is provided through small donations from those who attend. It is very much a community effort, with many club members volunteering their time to cook and help host the gathering.
The club also uses the breakfast as an opportunity to give back to the community. During the months of November and December, attendees are encouraged to bring canned food or toys instead of donations. Those items are then given to the Caldwell County Food Bank and the Brown Santa program.
While it’s called a “fly-in breakfast,” the event is open to everyone, not just pilots. In fact, many of the people who attend have never been in a small airplane before. The breakfast offers families and community members a chance to enjoy a meal, spend time outdoors, and get a closer look at the activity at the airport. Kids especially enjoy watching the airplanes arrive and meeting the pilots.
The Lockhart Flying Club was founded in 2018 with the goal of making aviation more accessible while building a strong community around flying. The club operates several aircraft that members can use for training and recreational flying, and it hosts educational events and social gatherings throughout the year.
Recently, the club expanded its clubhouse at the airport, creating a welcoming place for members and their guests to gather. The space now includes a lounge area, coffee bar and training room, as well as a flight simulator that members can use for both fun and training.
One of the club’s goals is to help people in the community feel more connected to the airport. Many residents may not realize how active Lockhart Municipal Airport is or how many pilots visit the area each year. Through events like the monthly breakfast, the club hopes to make the airport a place the whole community can enjoy.
Anyone interested in attending is welcome to stop by the next breakfast and learn more about what the Lockhart Flying Club has to offer.
