Brownie Ross
Brownie H. Ross, of New Braunfels, was called by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at the age of 90. Born in West Monroe, La., to parents James and Gladys Hammock, she married William Walter Ross in Miami, Florida, in 1943 and traveled with him around the country while he served in the Navy during World War II. They were married nearly 40 years until his passing in
1992.
Brownie was a loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great‐grandmother, and true friend to countless people. She enjoyed years of camaraderie with the Sunshine Singers of First Baptist Church. Brownie was an avid football fan and loved to cheer on her Dallas Cowboys. She was a competitive bridge and domino player, and enjoyed china painting.
Brownie is survived by her son, Milton Ross and wife, Kathleen; son, Gary “Butch” Ross and wife, Vickie; grandchildren, W.W. “Billy” Ross, III, and wife, Jennifer, Hilary Ann Ross and Sara Ross; great‐grandchildren, Lera Bella Richard and Colton Pete Ross; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.W. “Bill” Ross; son, W. W. “Pete” Ross, Jr.; and her sister, Lera Morgan and husband, Brady.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels.
A memorial service was planned on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in New Braunfels, where Brownie was a lifetime member, with Rev. Billy Barnes officiating. Private interment is scheduled to follow in Lockhart Municipal Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church New Braunfels Building Fund, the Sophienburg Museum, or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank Dr. Warren Albrecht and his nurse Mary, along with special caregivers Marilyn, Mary, Irene, Maria, and Helen for their compassionate care of Brownie over the last few years.
