Caroline “Lena” Nolte, 97, passed away peacefully in Lockhart on July 10, 2009. Lena was born Sept. 22, 1911, in Uhland, Texas, to Otto and Anna Germer Pfefferkorn.

She married Hugo Frederick Nolte on Oct. 1, 1930.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo; daughters, Darlene and Nancy Ann; and sisters, Ninnie Koehler and Ida Chastian.

s survived by her son, Daniel Nolte and wife, Linda Nolte; son-in-law, Jimmy Wilson; grandchildren; Deborah Taylor and husband, Thom, Keith Wilson, and wife, Diane, Danny Nolte and wife, Tracy, Sheryl Groppe, and husband Robert, and Steve Nolte and wife, Jodi; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In her earlier married life, Lena spent many hours working on the farm with her husband, Hugo. They made their farm life a success and were able to support their family. She spent many hours gardening, and canning. Lena also spent many hours quilting. She made each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren a quilt. She did a lot of volunteer work for the church until she was no longer able to do so.

Lena’s greatest joy was cooking. She spent many hours in the kitchen cooking up delicious meals. She was well known for her wonderful coffee cake rolls. At Christmas time or any other occasion, she would pass out delicious coffee cake rolls. She will be missed by her family and friends.

A visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Eeds Funeral Home Chapel where family and friends were in attendance. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009, at Eeds Funeral Home with Rev. Carolyn Rosenbalm officiating. Burial followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.

Serving as the pallbearers were: Keith Wilson, Thomas Blackwell, Danny Nolte, Aaron Nolte, Steve Nolte and David Martinez. Honorary pallbearers were: Thom Taylor, Robert Groppe and Shane Gragg.
