Dorothy Gillis Lindsey, affectionately known at “Dot,” was born April 4, 1928, to Willie Mae Vaughn Gillis and James Arthur Gillis in Petronella, Texas. Mrs. Lindsey went to be with her Lord on Oct. 4, 2006.
Mrs. Lindsey is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Steve; her children, Linda and husband Don Fehlis, Larry and wife Gale, Mardie and husband Sam Barn

ard, and Becky and husband Kim Harris; her grandchildren, Kelly and husband Eddie Humphrey, Thad and Julie Fehlis, Kurt Fehlis, Alex and Erin Lindsey, Sara and Katie Harris, and her great-grandchild, Taylor Humphrey. She is also survived by her sister, Ruby, and husband Deryl White; sisters-in-law, Neita Gillis, Lucille Huie, Frances Lindsey; her brothers-in-law, Lance Brown and Harvey Lindsey; her best friends, Leonard and LaMerle Schuelke; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lindsey graduated from Pearsall High School in 1945 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwest Texas State College in 1948. After marrying Steve, she became a huge Aggie fan, as all of her children and grandchildren can attest to. She taught junior high math in Lockhart and in Pearsall for 25 years. She was always fond of telling us about the various people she had taught and looked forward to learning about their lives.
“Dot,” “Momma,” “Mema,” “Grandma,” as we called her, was a loving and dedicated teacher, but most of all she was a very loving and dedicated mother and wife. She never put pressure on us to be something we were not, she never judged, and the times we really needed her, she was there for us. There will never be a day that goes by that we will not feel the loss of her being involved in our lives, but because of her we are all who we are as individuals and a family. We want all to remember how much we loved, honored and respected her. We will always be grateful to her.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped us care for Mother: friends and the Central Texas Medical Center Hospice Care. Thank you also for your continued love, support and prayers.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hahn officiating. Interment followed in the Lockhart City Cemetery.
Arrangements were made under the care and guidance of McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan St., Lockhart, (512) 398-4791.
